Medical Laboratory Technologist
Hours: Day Shift
Perform various chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for the use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Must qualify as a Medical Technologist or Technician according to CLIA 88 standards.
Must have earned bachelor's degree (Technologist) or associate's degree (Technician)in medical technology, chemical, physical or biological sciences. Preferred certification by ASCP or equivalent.
Experience:At least one year of pertinent full-time experience or training.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required to conduct and interpret low, moderate and high complexity lab tests; maintain accuracy; to organize, analyze and evaluate new lab methodologies; to follow oral and written instructions; to exercise independent judgment.
Must have good eyesight to effect proper operation of the laboratory equipment and procure laboratory specimens. Must have good physical health. Must have full use of upper extremities. Must have good ambulatory mobility to move between areas within lab, often between narrow passages, and to obtain specimens in a variety of emergency and routine patient environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform specimen collection to include phlebotomy, cultures and arterial punctures for all age groups.
Evaluate integrity of specimens received from sources outside of the laboratory.
Follow department and hospital policies and procedures.
Must be able to verbalize instructions to patients regarding specimen collection.
Maintain and trouble shoot lab equipment.
Perform and document calibration and quality control of all laboratory equipment.
Answer telephone and verbalize patient reports.
Travel to other facilities for specimen collection (i.e. nursing homes)
Deliver reports to the clinics and nursing homes.
Interpret laboratory results for accuracy.
Forward reports to the ordering physician and any agency requested by the ordering physician.
Assemble medical records for outpatients for coding in HIM.
Participate in proficiency testing and competency evaluation.
Be able to rotate in all areas of lab.
Participate in call rotation.
Participate in evaluation of new methodologies, procedures, and instrumentation.
Participate in orientation and training of new lab personnel.
Must be proficient in the use and interpretation of CS Master VII.
Perform other functions as assigned by supervisor or medical director
